    Description

Mining Town Photograph "White Canyon Jessup, Nevada" ca 1908. Jessup, Churchill County Nevada. Other names refereed to (Copper Valley, New Virginia & Sebastopol). Gold and silver were discovered first in 1864, then again in 1908 (probable era of this photograph). Located in the southern Trinity Range, about 10 miles northwest of White Plains on the Southern Pacific Railroad, the district sometimes included the southern part of the Copper. The Sebastopol district, described as being six miles from New Truckee district in one 1865 account, and 4 miles in another (Gold Hill News, 1865), was probably in the western part of what is now the Jessup district.

Very rare image of Jessup, Nevada. It appears that this tent city was erected to work the gold and silver discoveries of the area; there is only one wooden building in this town, great photograph taken by Lee Jellum of Lovelock, Nevada. Measures approximately 12" x 10".

    Condition:
Very good-fine, image dirty & crack at bottom of image.
