    Description

    Lot of Two Documents regarding Death from a Gun Shot & Stealing Government Property, ca. 1870s. First document reads, in part: "Territory of New Mexico, County of Grant. We the undersigned corners jurors and justice of the peace of prescient No. 1 held an examination on the body of the deceased Henry F. Dwenger, about four miles North Easterly from Santa Rita Copper Mine, on the 12th day of March A. D. 1879. After due deliberation and examination upon our oaths do find that the deceased Henry F. Dwenger came to his death from a gun shot wound in the of his son William Dwenger assisted by William Young the ball entering the back of the head and coming out at the right eye the body and clothing having been reorganized by Ira E. Smith and sworn to by Ira Smith as the same he saw worn by the deceased Henry F. Dwenger on the 17th day of November A. D. 1878 when he last saw him, etc.. George Cassidy, Justice of Peace." 8" x 12.5".

    Second document reads, in part: "Territory of New Mexico, County of Grant. To R. H. Shell Const. Greeting Whereas P. H. Sutcliffe has made claim before me e. h. banner a justice of the peace in and for the above mentioned County and Territory, that on the Fifth day of January A. D. 187_ certain personal property belonging to the government of the United States, to wit: Two wagon tires one tent fly 1 Yuma or robber bucket and other government property of the value of fifty ($50.) dollars or upwards was stolen and feloniously taken from Fort Bayanar in grant County and that he suspects that Manuel Rico did steal and take the same aforesaid property..." 8" x 12".

    Very good-fine, some minor tears in folds.
