Lot of Three Photographs of Magdalena, New Mexico 1890s. In 1883, about 2.5 miles south of Magdalena, the Kelly Mine opened in Kelly, New Mexico. In 1884, the village of Magdalena was named after Magdalena Peak when its post office opened. The next year the railroad completed a spur out from Socorro, New Mexico, originally intended to ship cattle from the Plains of San Augustin, but which also proceeded to ship out ore from the Kelly Mine and others. Magdalena was incorporated in 1913.

This lot has three scarce photographs of Magdalena. First image identified in period ink, "Magdalena Mountain and the face of Magdalena a freak of nature". Second image, "New town or the city of Magdalena 3 ½ miles from". The last image is a great street scene "Taken from my store done six months ago". All three images photographed and identified by the same person, a local store owner. Very scare photographs. Measures approximately 8.50" x 6".

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
