    Description

Lot of ten William H. Jackson Western Chromolithograph photographs ca 1890-1910. W. H. Jackson agreed to join the firm as a partner and moved to Detroit, Michigan, in 1898. The precise method of printing was only known by those who were working for the Company, and were sworn to secrecy. The photochrom chromolithographs (chromos) were produced from hand-carved stones imported from Bavaria. The exact number of stones is not known, most likely varied. The process was painstaking, they where printed from fine grain lithograph stones with light sensitive asphaltum coating and the process occurred for each color. This company used nine or ten stones per photograph.

Lot has Western related lithographs, two are mounted on cards, No. 51293, an Embryonic Warrior, (Ute Papoose) & No. 51210. Bringing the harvest. No. 51047 Colorado, Miners cabin in the winter. No. 51173 New Mexico, Los pueblos de Taos. & No. 51195 Parnsworth's loop, Santa Catalina Island (Stagecoach). All nine of these measure approximately 7" x 3.75". The last image is no. 54056 Obtossaway, a Chief of the Ojibwas. 7" x 9".
