Humorous "Cowboy" Typed Letter, Winslow Cattle Co., Fort Apache, Arizona, March 27, 1906, stamped with the address "5146 Ogden Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania," three pages, 8.5" x 11", company letterhead. This letter typed by "DeWitt Clinton Fretz, President of the Winslow Cattle Company," controlling the Bar Z Ranch, is addressed to "My Dear Pardner". The nonsensical prose reads (in part): "Does I long for the openess of the plain? Waal say, if ever a gent longed to get back home on a hop, step an a jump, I reckin you can put me down on the bills for that very one. I'm dinged sorry to hear you're not ridin' the range. I reckin Jamestown's sorter quiet an peaceful like ain't it? The nearest I ever got to it was Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, and Peirie all in South Dakoty." The typed "signature" reads "DeWitt Clinton Fretz. D.D.L. Ph.D". (The original DeWitt Clinton [1769-1828] was a U.S. Senator and Governor of New York, and was instrumental in the construction of the Erie Canal.) The letter is in fine condition with original folds.
