Two Imperial Size Photographs of Sneffles, Colorado, ca. 1890s. Ouray was built primarily on silver production in its early days. Although most all of its mines did produce some gold, the best-known properties were silver producers. Of the prominent mines around Ouray, only the American Nettie established itself as a rich gold mine.

These two images are from the Virginius Mine, near Sneffles, Colorado. Printed on the photograph is "Ashenfelter Train, Sneffles Colorado 1897". The donkeys are hauling ore from the Virginius mine. The second image is the Revenue mine same area. The photograph was taken at the smelter just below Ouray, Colorado. Seen in the background is the Ashenfelter stables. Images measure approximately 11" x 9" and 10" x 8".

    Condition: Very fine, great contrast.
