Description

San Francisco and Philadelphia U. S. Mint Die Shipment. On April 2, 1856, the shipping firm of Freeman & Company of Philadelphia took on some freight from Abraham Miller of the U. S. Mint. It weighed 125 lbs. and cost $31.25 to ship. Its destination was the U. S. Mint in San Francisco. More than likely, the box contained dies for 1856 coinage. A 8" x 5" receipt, offered here, records the detail of the transaction.
