Description

Circa 1891 Colorado Stagecoach Company Sign. 61" x 9" hand-painted wooden sign inscribed "Hundley Stage Company Colorado City. Cripple Creek Victor". The colors are burgundy, white, green and gold. The sign is holed in the corners for mounting to a wall. There are two raised wagon wheels with "banners" above each. One wheel lacks the hub. Nicely weathered, commensurate with age. Colorado City is now known as Old Colorado City. It's up against Pike's Peak just outside of Colorado Springs. Gold was discovered in Cripple Creek and Victor in 1891 and to get there you had to go around Pike's Peak. Narrow gauge rail was eventually installed, but in the 1890s you had to send supplies and people by horse and stage coach. We don't believe any museums or historical societies in Colorado own any Hundley Stage Company signs. It's got a lot of character!
