California Gold Nugget Recovered from the Wreck of the S.S. Central America. A 12.30 gram (0.39 ounce) nugget from one of the most famous treasure ship recoveries. The S.S. Central America was a paddle wheeler en route from Panama City to New York, laden with 400 passengers and millions of dollars in gold, when it sank on September 12, 1857, in a hurricane 200 miles off the coast of South Carolina. Only about 150 survived, and the gold went to the bottom, where it would lie under some 8000 feet of water until recovery in the 1980s. The present example was sold along with other artifacts from the ship in a 2000 New York auction, and comes with complete documentation and provenance. Such unquestionably authentic nuggets from the California gold rush days are rare and coveted by collectors.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
