    Description

Bret Harte: Heathen Chinee Story Cards. One of dime novelist Bret Harte's most popular stories was "The Heathen Chinee", a tale of a mining town and its gambling hall. The story even made its way onto a ceramic pitcher which occasionally surfaces. This is a set of nine engraved scenes from the work by artist Joseph Hull, each measuring 5.5" x 7.5", printed on one side only, and published by the Western News Company of Chicago in 1870. They come in their original envelope (front and back covers separated). The lot also includes three sets of reprints, lacking only one example of No. 9.
