[Klondike Gold Rush]. White Pass and Yukon Route Photograph. Four separate trains are lined up front to back while crossing a steel bridge in this circa 1908 image. The location is identified on the verso, in ink: "Steel Bridge near The Summit. 18 miles North of Skagway, Alaska. 300 ft. from top to bottom - under the third (from the front) Engine." The photograph is also identified on the recto at lower left, "Steel Arch W P & Y Route Four Engines," and the photographers name appears at the lower right corner, "Draper & Co." Photographer Horace Draper, a native of Illinois, first came north to photograph the Klondike Gold Rush in 1898. Partnering with fellow photographer, W. H. Case, they based their operation out of Skagway and Juneau, Alaska. The partnership fell apart in 1907 and Draper continued independently as Draper & Co. until his death in 1913. Measuring 9.5" x 7.5", the image shows light staining in the lighter areas, but the focus is sharp. Mounted to Draper's personal, blind stamped board to an overall size of 12.75" x 10.75".
