    Description

Gold Texas Deputy Marshal Badge. This is one of the nicer law enforcement badges we have had the pleasure to offer. It measures 2¼" x 1¾" and is stamped 10K on the back side. The front has draped United States flags tied together at the bottom with a rosette from which hangs the symbol of Texas... the Lone Star. There are arrows and an olive branch depicted on the bottom. It is inscribed in black enamel: "Deputy U. S. Marshal Southern District of Texas". The condition is excellent. We believe it dates from the last quarter of the nineteenth century.

Due to a computer error when this auction was posted on our web site, some clients were inadvertently able to place bids at below the established minimum bids published in the catalog. This has been corrected, and the minimum required bid now posted above either reflects that required opening bid or bidding action at or above the starting bid.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
