Frank James: An Important 1882 Letter from Gov. Crittenden's Office to Anna James Regarding Frank's Possible Surrender. This June 2nd letter was written by F.C. Carr, the governor's private secretary, on his behalf. It is clearly in response to a "feeler" letter from Mrs. James about Frank turning himself in.

Farr points out that Crittenden "can take no action upon your bare suggestion", and states that the governor "desires to see you in person, and hear you freely, as to your proposals etc." He asks her to confirm her willingness to meet with Capt. H.H. Craig of Kansas City before coming, assuring Anna that "You will find Capt, Craig reliable and trustworthy and incapable of violating any Confidence you may see proper to repose in him." He refers to Henry H. Craig, who was Police Commissioner of Kansas City.
A highly important letter in beautiful condition. Two pages, 7.75" x 9.75".
