DescriptionEARLY DEPUTY SHERIFF BADGE - DENVER, COLORADO - ca.1880-90. This is a very fine and early Deputy Sheriff's badge stamped from aged nickel silver in a nice enamel-filled design. The badge is the early ball-tipped five-point star shape, with a hallmark stamped on the reverse, "Sachs-Lawlor M & M.CO - Denver, Colo." The notation for this specific mark is listed as unknown, but likely dates around the time the company used the mark "Sachs-Lawlor", which began in 1881. Badges with extensive filled enamel on the front are rare in stock form, and this exact badge is pictured on pg. 100 of Frank Latham's reference book "Police Badges". The enamel has partially flaked off, giving the badge a classic worn look. The badge measures 2"x 2", and the one-piece brass pin is welded and original. A really special, early and high-grade Colorado stock badge.
