    Crockett Silver-Mounted Spurs.
Nice, large pair maker-marked on bottom of the heel band at the shank (3rd outside mark). According to House and Martin in "Bits & Spurs In The Texas Tradition" page 122, the Crockett mark in this location (# 3) dates these spurs to the "Middle Years," circa 1943-46.
2 1/2-inch 6-point rowels which spin easily and make this pair sing. Slightly turned down shank with rocker-engraved silver overlays. 1-inch bands have matching silver overlays. Button covers are heart-shaped and also decorated with engraved silver. Carved, brown leathers with fine, similar geometric patterns and marked: JOE GISH/MAKER/FREDERICKSBURG,TX. Fine nickel-plated buckles.
Provenance: Roger and Linda Carpenter Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
