Large Size Photograph of Apache Indians Arriving at San Carlos, Arizona Territory, 1893. The San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation was first established in 1871 by President Grant. For a time, the reservation housed many bands of Apache, Mohave, and Yuma Indians who were relocated from their homelands. Later, separate reservations were created for the Mohave and Yuma Indians leaving San Carlos for the Apache who are descendants of the Athabascan family which migrated to the Southwest in the 10th century.

Image has no photographer, but probably Erwin Baer though, does have a period ink notation on verso. "Apache Indians arriving at San Carlos for issues 1892." The photographer Erwin Baer, of Prescott, Arizona took many of this type of photograph. This scarce Apache Indians photograph on the San Carlos, Arizona Territory reservation depicts many Apache Indians with their wagons, horses, etc. arriving to their final destination of San Carlos. Measures approximately 8.50" x 5.25".

    Good-very good, light contrast.
