Early Stereoview on Missouri River, Fort Benton, Montana Territory, ca. 1870s. Cow Island was part of the transportation network, which supplied the Montana gold fields in the 1860s and 1870s. Steamboats moved freight up the Missouri River to the head of navigation at Fort Benton and bull trains distributed the goods. The Cow Island Trail was used to freight supplies from Cow Island to Fort Benton when the river was too low for boats to reach Fort Benton.

Early stereoview of a group of people on boat, appears to be a military men, also a women with her children, etc. In period ink on verso: "The Mackinaw Montana, leaving Benton for Cow Island Missouri River, M.T." Measures approximately 7" x 3.5".

    Very fine, nice contrast.

You reach a customer base that is in many ways completely unknown to the major auction houses, and your marketing to this base is as professional as one could hope for. As I continue to wind down my holdings.
