    Chris Madsen Autograph Document Signed "C. Madsen," Indian Territory, 1891. Chris Madsen immigrated to the United States in 1876. He joined the U.S. Cavalry and was stationed at Fort Reno, Oklahoma before moving to Fort Russell, Wyoming. He remained in the army for 14 years and fought in various Indian campaigns. Madsen left the army in 1891 and found work as a deputy United States marshal in Oklahoma. During this period Madsen, Heck Thomas and Bill Tilghman became known as the Three Guardsmen and were largely responsible for wiping out organized crime in Oklahoma. This included the hunting down of Bill Doolin and his gang. He also took part in the killing of Red Waightman at Arapaho and Oliver Yountis at Orlando. During the First World War Madsen tried to enlist in the United States Army, but was rejected for being too old. Although he was now in his sixties he was appointed Chief of Police at Oklahoma City.

Madsen" one page, pre-printed, 7" x 8" document, dated 1891 from the Oklahoma Territory (Indian Territory), where a man has been charged for "Receiving & buying government clothing from persons not authorized to sell." This document lists five witnesses to the case including "C. Madsen." This document is signed on front by N. B. Wass as U. S. Commissioner. On verso, Madsen has signed his name acknowledging receipt of payment along with other witnesses & also approved and signed by U. S. Attorney Horace Speed.
