Charles P. Shipley., Rare C.P. Shipley Texas Style Spurs. The saddle and tack operation of C.P. Shipley located at the Kansas City Stockyards was one of the most successful ever to operate in the West. Opened in 1885 by Shipley, it operated continuously through 1972. During the golden years of 1900 to 1930, Shipley contracted with "Texas Style" masters Oscar Crockett, J.R. McChesney, G.A. Bischoff, August Buermann and others to manufacture spurs of unique design to be sold under his name. Shipley's spurs are marked inside the heel band: "C.P. Shipley Kansas City, MO." This outstanding pair judging by the engraving and iron work was made by Bischoff whom Shipley hired in 1915 to run his spur shop. Bischoff-made Shipleys are the most desirable of all Shipley-made products. Bischoff left Shipley's employment by the early 1920s. Bischoff operated his own blacksmith shop in Gainesville, Texas, specializing in Texas Style spurs prior to his employment with Shipley.Courtesy of Bruce Bartlett, San Antonio Consigned Lot The high bid placed by via mail, fax, the Internet or telephone will be entered as the opening bid for the lot during the live portion of the silent auction.
