Buffalo Bill Wild West: Three Desirable Hunting Publications. William E. Webb's Buffalo Land, published in Cincinnati and Chicago in 1872, contains the first description of Buffalo Bill to appear in a book. Webb, an advance agent or scout for the Kansas Pacific Railroad, laid out Hays City, Kansas, in 1868 where he met and was obviously impressed by Cody. This is a good tight copy with embossed cover and gold-stamped buffalo. Adam Bogardus and his sons were partners and featured shooters in the first couple of years of Buffalo Bill's Wild West. Bogardus popularized the use of clay and glass targets in trap shooting instead of live birds. His Field, Cover, and Trap Shooting, published in New York by Forest and Stream, is a classic treatment and still relevant. Originally published in 1891, this 1899 edition is a good copy and features Bogardus' portrait stamped in gold on the front cover. Finally, "My First Buffalo Hunt" is an extremely rare booklet privately printed in Lincoln, Nebraska, c.1918. It is a long poem -- not great poetry, but fun reading -- by Thomas R. Armstrong illustrated with adventurous hunting scenes, and is in excellent condition.
