    Description

Beautiful Hotel Cody Sterling Cigar Box. An attractive three-tiered box, 9.5" x 6.25" x 4.75", from the Hotel Cody in North Platte, Nebraska. The design incorporates a cigar box, cigarette box, match box, and end cutter into one unique object. The workmanship of the box is impressive with many fine details such as spring-loaded hinges on the lids and wood-lined box interiors. The iconic head of an Indian chief applied to the lid of the upper-most box is an evocative symbol of the "Wild West" that the Cody name is synonymous with. "Hotel Cody" and "W.F. Cody "Buffalo Bill" is engraved on the lids of the two largest boxes. The underside of the box is marked "Sterling" and "123". Laid into the largest box is an envelope with the Hotel Cody logo, stamped and dated 1935. The cigar box is in near fine condition with only the usual tarnish.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
