Autograph Letter Signed on 10th Cavalry Letterhead, Fort Sill, Indian Territory, 1873. Maj. Gen. Philip H. Sheridan, who led a campaign into Indian Territory to stop hostile tribes from raiding border settlements in Texas and Kansas, staked out the site of Fort Sill on January 8, 1869. Sheridan's massive winter campaign involved six cavalry regiments accompanied by frontier scouts such as "Buffalo Bill" Cody, "Wild Bill" Hickok, Ben Clark, and Jack Stilwell. Troops camped at the location of the new fort included the 7th Cavalry, the 19th Kansas Volunteers and the 10th Cavalry, a distinguished group of black "Buffalo Soldiers" who constructed many of the stone buildings still surrounding the old post quadrangle.

Autograph Letter Signed on rare letterhead for Headquarters Tenth Cavalry (Buffalo Soldiers) from Fort Sill Indian Territory. The letter talks about the killing of two men, and reads, in part: "If it makes no difference it is desirable to keep this here for the present as the man Clark, charged with the Killings be returned here and is now in confinement, and under the law is amenable to trial before a court martial for Manslaughter to be prejudice of good order & military discipline". Measures approximately 8" x 10.25".

Very good-fine, water stain bottom right corner.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
