    Autograph Letter Signed by U. S. Marshall E. D. Nix, Oklahoma Territory, 1895. Evett Dumas (E. D.) Nix Autograph Letter Signed "E.D. Nix U S Marshall". One page, 8.5" x 11", Department of Justice Letterhead, Guthrie, O. T., Dec. 2 1895.
On September 1, 1893, a posse organized by the new U.S. Marshall, Evett Dumas "E.D." Nix, entered the outlaw town of Ingalls with the intent to capture the gang. Three of the fourteen lawmen carrying Deputy U.S. Marshalls' commissions would die as a result of the battle. Two town citizens would also die; one killed protecting the outlaws. Of the outlaws, Newcomb was seriously wounded but escaped, and Arkansas Tom Jones, the killer of the three deputies and one citizen, was captured.

This pre-printed letterhead "Department of Justice U. S. Marshall's Office, Territory of Oklahoma, E. D. Nix U. S. Marshall, John M. Hale Chief Deputy." Letter reads: "Friend Tom, Please authorize the clerk to issue alias copies and certified copy of indictment against Ben Cravens and mail to me at once. It is important that I get this quick. Your friend, E. D. Nix US Marshall."

Ben Cravens began his criminal career as a bootlegger along the southern border of Kansas, including Cowley County. He peddled whiskey to the Osage, Kaw, Otoe, Ponca, and Pawnee Indians in the outlet. He was arrested in December of 1894 and jailed at Guthrie, but he escaped.

    Very fine.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
