    Autograph Document Signed "Bob Dalton". Prisoner Certificate of Frank Dalton, 1887. Dalton, Robert Rennick "Bob" (1869-1892). Raised on the border of Indian Territory near Coffeyville, Kansas, the Dalton brothers originally were on the side of the law. Oldest brother Frank Dalton was a U. S. Deputy Marshal for the federal court of Fort Smith, Arkansas, but he was shot and killed in an ambush by the smith-Dixon gang. His younger brother Grat Dalton took up where Frank left off, becoming a U.S. Deputy Marshal for the Muskogee court. Bob Dalton was a U. S. Deputy Marshal for the federal court in Wichita, Kansas, working in and out of the Osage Nation. Youngest brother Emmett worked as a member of some of his brother's posses.

    Pre-printed prisoner certification document dated June 18, 1887 from Fort Smith, Arkansas. Reads in full: "Western District of Arkansas, I hereby certify that I have been employed and have acted 18 days, as a Guard over Jas. Davenport, et. al, a United States prisoner in charge of Frank Dalton Deputy Marshal, from Muscogee to Fort Smith, being a distance of 80 miles. [Signed by] Bob Dalton, P. O. Address Ft. Smith, Ark." Very rare signed Bob Dalton document.

    Fine, two small filing holes in top corner, on verso remnants of a document from being mounted and 1" piece of tape also thinned spots where old tape was removed.
