Space Shuttle: Personalized NASA Aluminum Clipboard Directly from the Personal Collection of Astronaut John Young, Signed. A 9" x 11.75" spring-loaded, foldover, covered clipboard. On the front is mounted a 9" x 9" metal plaque with "John F. Kennedy Space Center" printed above a 9" x 5" photo-engraved image of a Space Shuttle rollout (possibly STS-1) and "John W. Young" printed beneath along with the NASA logo. Young has boldly signed at the bottom: "John W. Young". The maker's name "Handcrest" is engraved on the back. Our research has shown that these clipboards were manufactured for various government agencies by the Seattle location of the Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc., and are made by employees with visual disabilities. A printed copy of an article from the Seattle Lighthouse Horizons newsletter about these clipboards will be included with the lot. John Young was the commander of the first Space Shuttle mission, Columbia STS-1, in April of 1981. He also commanded the Columbia - Spacelab 1 STS-9 mission in 1983. A unique and personal memento. Excellent condition.
