    Description

Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-3) Landing: John Young's "Northrup Strip Access" Badge Directly from His Personal Collection, Signed. A 2.25" x 3.25" white laminated badge with clip at top. There is a simple image of a space shuttle centered in blue, an "S" sticker attached at left, and "STS -3" stamped. It is filled in for "J. YOUNG" of "NASA/JSC" and is good for both the Nasa Ops Area and the Deservice Area. The back has an authorization number of "0815" and the statement that this badge is "Property of the U.S. Gov't, issued for official uses..." STS-3, with Jack Lousma and Gordon Fullerton aboard, was the only Space Shuttle ever to land at the Northrup Strip at White Sands Space Harbor, New Mexico. Young has boldly signed vertically on the front: "John W. Young". He was certainly familiar with the area as it was the primary facility NASA used to train shuttle pilots using T-38s and Shuttle Training Aircraft. Excellent condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
