Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-3) Flown "Pick Nits" Placard Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Jack Lousma, Signed and Certified. An 11" x 6.5" heavyweight white card with "Pick Nits" in a large calligraphic hand on the front with the original Velcro on the verso where it was attached the wall of the Columbia during the STS-3 mission. Also on the verso is Lousma's printed explanation of its significance, in part: "...[It was] smuggled into Columbia by one of our supporting colleagues at the behest, no doubt, of members of our training and simulation teams. Gordon and I trained for this mission for two and a half years, beginning over a year before the first Space Shuttle mission, at a time when much was still unknown about this very complex spacecraft... Thus, many questions arose during our training that could not be answered 'on the spot'. In any case, our many requests for answers, some of which required intensive research by our training and simulation teams, earned us the title of 'Nit Pickers' and this merited us the dubious distinction represented by this placard..." A great example of the humorous camaraderie between members of the NASA teams. Extremely fine condition with a couple of creases.

Lousma has signed and certified its history on the verso: "This 'Pick Nits" placard was flown and hastened to the mid-deck wall of /Space Shuttle Columbia STS-3. It is part of my personal collection and/ has been in my possession since we made the first and only landing of a/ Space Shuttle to date on the lake bed at White Sands, New Mexico./ Jack Lousma Commander, STS-3".

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
