    Flown relic originally from the collection of Robert "Hoot" Gibson.

    Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS-27) and Columbia (STS-28) Flown Tire Segment in Display Directly from the Personal Collection of Astronaut Rusty Schweickart, Signed and Certified. A 2.75" diameter truncated Lucite cylinder, 3.25" tall overall. Enclosed inside is a piece of tire, approximately 0.75" x 0.5" x 1" in size, and a color mission insignia for STS-27. On the bottom of the mission insignia is the text: "Artifact Series/ This tire segment flew aboard the orbiters/ Atlantis on STS-27 from December 2-6, 1988 and/ Columbia on STS-28 from August 8-13, 1989. Both/ flights were classified Department of Defense missions./ The tire was one of the two nose gear tires that provided/ a safe landing for the crew and their vehicle./ This artifact is from the personal collection of/ [facsimile signature]/ Robert 'Hoot' Gibson/ Created exclusively by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation". Gibson was the commander of STS-27, one of five shuttle missions he flew. Schweickart has signed on the back: "From my personal collection/ Rusty Schweickart". Pristine condition.
