NASA Exceptional Service Medal with Presentation Certificate. A beautiful gold-colored 39mm medal on a blue and gold ribbon pin, still enclosed in its tooled leather presentation case, along with a matching lapel pin and rosette. The accompanying framed certificate, 15.25" x 12", bears the text: "The National Aeronautics and Space Administration/ Awards to/ Richard C. Proffitt/ the/ NASA/ Exceptional Service Medal/ For exceptional management integration of the Launch Complex 39 spacecraft test/ operations requiring effective scheduling and coordination of concurrent government-/ industry testing of manned space vehicles, supporting facilities and ground/ support equipment." It is signed by NASA Administrator "James C Fletcher" and signed and sealed at Washington, D.C., on November 6, 1972.

Included is the NASA "Annual Honor Awards Ceremony" program dated November 9, 1972. It's notable that astronauts Robert L. Crippen and Karol J. Bobko received this same award that day. Also of note, Snoopy creator Charles M. Schulz was awarded a NASA Public Service Award. Inside this program were found two 1972-dated memos regarding this award and the trip to the ceremony. Also included is Mr. Proffitt's copy of the original "Incentive Award Nomination" forms for this honor. The "Justification" for the award reads, in part: "Proffitt has demonstrated continuing excellence in his management integration of Launch Complex 39 spacecraft test operations... This unusual capability has led to the smooth flowing systematic test and checkout of Apollo 13 through Apollo 16..." Excellent condition. From the estate of NASA engineer Richard C. Proffitt, Launch Complex 39 Operations Manager from 1969 to 1976.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
