    Description

Gemini 11 Flown Sterling Silver Fliteline Medallion Directly from the Personal Collection of Astronaut Jack Lousma, with Signed COA. A 21mm x 29mm shield-shaped silver medal with the mission insignia on the obverse is one of possibly only 100-200 minted. This medallion was flown aboard Gemini 11 with crewmembers Pete Conrad and Richard Gordon during September 12-15, 1966. The design includes the Roman numeral "XI," the Agena target vehicle, the orbital apogee path, and a spacewalking astronaut. On the reverse, above the "Sterling" hallmark, is engraved the mission and its dates. Excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Jack Lousma" on his letterhead, stating (in part): "The silver colored Gemini 11 medal, known as a Fliteline medal, that accompanies this letter was flown aboard the Gemini 11 mission... As a member of the Astronaut Office, I was permitted to purchase a flown medal for this mission. It is from my personal collection and has been in my possession since receiving it just after the mission."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
