    Description

Walt Cunningham's Apollo 7 technical memos and meeting notes.

Apollo 7: Internal NASA Training-Used Letters & Memos Contained in "Apollo 7 Planning" and "Flight Operations Planning" Binders Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Walt Cunningham, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOAs. An absolutely fascinating look at this historical period after the tragic Apollo 1 training accident and up to the first manned Apollo mission. Two 8.75" x 11.5" pressboard binders (3" total thickness), containing dozens of 1967 and 1968 dated memorandums and letters, many hand-annotated by Cunningham, totaling several hundred pages. The cover of each binder is signed: "My personal copies/ used in [or during] training for/ Apollo 7./ Walt Cunningham". Inside, he has signed several of the memos on their front pages: "My personal copy,/ Walt Cunningham". An important piece of Apollo history. Fine or better condition.

Included with this lot are two letters of authenticity signed "Walter Cunningham" on his letterhead. The first one states, in full: "These technical memos document some of the innumerable design and review meetings in which we, as flight crew, participated following the disastrous Apollo 1 fire. Nearly all major systems were modified as we tried desperately to recover. This notebook contains my personal copies of memos with my annotations or, in some cases, my original memos. They have been in my possession continuously since their drafting or distribution in 1967 or 1968."

The second signed letter of authenticity states, in full: "Following the Apollo 1 fire, we conducted a series of Flight Operations Planning meetings in an effort to recover from the fire and get the most out of the next mission, Apollo 7. This notebook contains my personal copies of memos and meeting notes documenting the major planning decisions made in 1967 and 1968. Some memos have my personal annotations. They have been in my possession continuously since their drafting or distribution in 1967 or 1968."
