    Signed by Stafford and Cernan.

Apollo 10 Lunar Module Flown Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Tom Stafford, Signed, with Signed LOA. This 3.875" x 4.25" shield-shaped patch flew aboard the Apollo 10 mission to the moon, May 18-26, 1969. Apollo 10 was a full-out dress rehearsal for the upcoming Apollo 11 mission that tested all the procedures and equipment of a moon landing mission except for the actual landing. The Lunar Module Snoopy, with Gene Cernan and Tom Stafford aboard, came within 8.4 miles of the lunar surface. The design for this insignia features a large Roman numeral "X" on the moon with the command and lunar modules preparing to rendezvous. Earth is visible in the background. The bold signatures, "Tom Stafford" and "Gene Cernan", are found on the verso. A perfect companion piece to the adjacent lot. This particular patch is of the second "crew' patch variety in that it is the type worn on the post-flight jumpsuits by the crew, and is hard to find in any case. Excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Tom Stafford", stating (in part): "This cloth patch was carried to the Moon on the Apollo X mission. The patch flew to within 50,000 feet of the lunar surface in our Lunar Module (LM-4) named Snoopy... This patch has been in my private collection since 1969."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
