DescriptionSOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD POLICE BADGE - ca.1910-15. This is a nice Southern Pacific Railroad Police center-cut star badge by Irvine and Jachens of San Francisco, California. The badge is hallmarked on the reverse in raised stamping and made of nickel-plated brass. These badges were often issued to Railroad policemen whose main occupation was to protect the valuable shipments in conjunction with shipping companies like Wells, Fargo & Co. Badges like this were also later issued to citizens during the WWI threat. The badge has a fair amount of wear with some minor nicks, and the nickel is softly coming off the front in an even manner. The badge has a one-piece pin held by a flat plate pin cover, and measures 2.25" round. This is a nice S.P.R.R. badge hallmarked by a known badge maker.
