NASA Mariner 10 Contractor's Model with Original Shipping Case. A 1/10 scale model, constructed of metal parts, and on a wooden base with two plaques, one reads: "MARINER VENUS / MERCURY 1973 1/10 Scale". The other is a "NASA Property JPL - NAS7-100" label. The spacecraft itself is 29.5" across its tiltable solar panels x 8.5" 7.5". The wooden base is octagonal, 9" across, and the stand is 10" tall. On November 3, 1973, the Mariner Venus/Mercury 1973 spacecraft, also known as Mariner 10, was launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, becoming the first spacecraft designed to use an interplanetary gravitational "slingshot" maneuver. Three months after launch it flew by Venus, changed speed and trajectory, then crossed Mercury's orbit in March 1974. The mission objectives were to measure the environment, atmosphere, surface, and body characteristics of Mercury and Venus. It comes with the original wooden shipping box, 18" x 13" x 13", with a "NASA Educ. Serv. Project" label. A very rare model. Fine condition with a couple of small pieces loose. The handle and clasps of the box are broken.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
