Jimmy Doolittle Photograph and Signature Lot. A diverse lot of items relating to James H. Doolittle (1896-1993). Though most notably known for his military service in WWII, especially the bombing raid on Tokyo early in the war, Jimmy Doolittle was already something of an aviation celebrity in the 1930s. Doolittle set numerous world records in air racing and won the coveted Bendix Trophy in 1931 and the Thompson Trophy in 1932. This lot includes two period photographs of Doolittle's famed Gee Bee R-1 racer, a period photo of his aircraft "Super Solution", two publicity photos from late in Doolittle's life, a brochure circa 1980s regarding Doolittle's winning of the Howard Hughes award, a 1932 typed signed letter on George Washington Bicentennial Airplane Flight letterhead to Cliff Henderson signed "J H. Doolittle" with a first day cover for the bicentennial flight, and a program from a December 10, 1968 aviation salute held at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York signed "J. H. Doolittle" on the front cover and additionally signed by WWI ace "Eddie Rickenbacker" and aviation pioneer "Harry Bruno" beside their respective photos in the program. All items are in very good condition with the exception of the typed signed letter that is soiled and slightly chipped along the edges. From the collection of Cliff Henderson.
