DescriptionGemini 4: Flown Mustard Seed Matted and Framed with a 1965 TIME Cover, Both Directly from the Personal Collection of Ed White II. A magazine cover dated June 11, 1965, showing White and Jim McDivitt, in celebration of their very successful space mission during which White performed the first EVA by an American. Beneath is mounted a single mustard seed that is one of a group the he had in his pocket while on his spacewalk. The engraved plaque reads: "Mustard Seed/ Carried into space by Ed White on 6/3/65/ during The First American EVA". This is the cover from White's personal copy of that issue of TIME. Beautifully matted and framed to an overall 17" x 19.5". Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a photocopy of a letter from Norman Vincent Peale dated just before the Gemini 4 mission. It reads, in small part: "You don't need to take a mustard seed with you as a symbol of your faith; you have the faith itself, and the inner sturdiness that will carry you through this tremendous and rewarding experience."
