Chartered in 1892 as the La Porte, Houston and Northern Railroad Company, the name was changed in 1895 upon acquisition of the North Galveston, Houston and Kansas City Railroad Company. Like most small railroads of the period, the company went into receivership after barely a year of operation. The line was sold under foreclosure and ultimately conveyed to the Galveston, Houston and Northern Railway Company 1899.
