Description

    Ed White II: National Space Hall of Fame Medal and Plaque, Directly from His Family's Collection. A 7" x 8" (closed) easel-backed leather and velvet presentation case containing a 3" high-relief medal of White mounted above an engraved 4.5" x 1.75" plaque with the text: "Lieut. Col. Edward H. White, II/ Astronaut/ Performed First Extra-Vehicular/ Activity in U.S. Manned Space Flight/ June 3, 1965." The medal was designed by Carl Paul Jennewein and manufactured by the Medallic Arts Company of New York. White was one of the first ten inducted into the National Space Hall of Fame in Houston on September 26, 1969 (posthumously), along with Dr. Wernher von Braun, Dr. Kurt H. Debus, Dr. Hugh L. Dryden, Dr. Maxime A. Faget, Dr. Robert R. Gilruth, John H. Glenn Jr, Dr. Robert H. Goddard, Alan B. Shepard Jr, and U.S. Rep. Albert Thomas. Excellent condition save for a minor, repairable tear in the outside case.
