The first operational cruise missile built by the U.S.

Early 1950s Martin B-61 Matador Missile Model with Related Original Photos and Ephemera. For the pre-manned spaceflight collectors and historians, here is an amazing group of material from the early days of the Martin Company's work with the Air Force in designing a truck-launched guided missile. The model of the missile is approximately 10.25" long x 7" wide; it is set on a Martin Missile Launcher, 12.5" long. Seven 8" x 10" B&W glossy missile-related photos are included, all taken (presumably) at Patrick Air Force Base. Two Martin-published booklets, The Martin-Orlando Story and A Decade of Missile Advancement are also included along with four early decals for the Bullpup and Pershing programs. In addition, there are two certificates from the Missile, Space and Range Pioneers organization made out to Richard Proffitt- one declares him a pioneer dating from 1955, and the other recognizes him for participating in the Matador Program as a Launch Assembly Officer (includes decal). Overall condition is fine or better. From the estate of NASA engineer Richard C. Proffitt, Launch Complex 39 Operations Manager from 1969 to 1976.
