Zeppelin "Hindenburg" Disaster Photos. This group of six photos records the tragic destruction of the German dirigible "Hindenburg" in Lakehurst, New Jersey. Though filled with highly flammable helium, the cause of the conflagration was later determined to be the ignition by static charges in the atmosphere of the layered "skin" of the airship. The items are: a 9" x 7" Acme photo of the ship in a hanger, a 9" x 7" four-shot composite of the ship in flames by World Wide Photos, a 9" x 7" Acme photo of the burning wreckage on the ground, a 9" x 7" Acme photo of survivors being pulled from the burning hulk, a 13" x 6" photo of throngs of people viewing the burning ship on the ground (loss to one corner) and a 14.5" x 8.5" image of the "Hindenburg" landing safely at Lakehurst during a prior voyage (creased corner).
