    Description

Charles A. Lindbergh "Spirit of America" Commemorative Statuette, 12.5", copper-toned paint on plaster, artist-signed "Matto" on side of base, marked "Mazzolini Co." by manufacturer on the back and dated 1927. A rather generic airman represents Colonel Lindbergh, who stands behind an American eagle perched atop a globe. Closer examination of the earth's surface reveals a small plane, presumably the Spirit of St. Louis, flying eastward towards the Eiffel Tower. The rear of the base has a socket for mounting a lamp. A ready market for souvenirs of Lindbergh's historic transatlantic flight erupted as soon he touched down in France. Guaranteed to generate animated conversation in the home.
