DescriptionApollo 8 Flown Silver Robbins Medallion Directly from the Personal Collection of Astronaut Jack Lousma, Serial Number 218, with Signed LOA. This sterling silver 38mm x 30mm triangular-shaped medal was one of 300 flown on the first manned mission to the moon, Apollo 8, with crewmembers Borman, Lovell, and Anders. The obverse of the medal features the mission insignia depicting a figure eight containing the surnames of the crew looping around the Earth and the moon symbolizing the mission number as well as the mission's orbits around both bodies. The three-sided shape with a rounded bottom duplicates the shape of the Apollo spacecraft. The reverse has the engraved dates of the mission, the serial number, and the sterling and Robbins hallmarks. No original plastic Robbins case is included. Extremely fine condition with some tarnish and light scratches on the reverse.
Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Jack Lousma" on his letterhead, stating (in full): "I hereby certify that silver Apollo 8 Robbins Medal, Serial Number 218, was flown aboard the mission December 21-27, 1968. This medal is from my personal collection and has been in my possession since the mission."
