DescriptionApollo 15 Flown National Flag of Israel Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot Al Worden, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 6" x 4.5" Israeli flag that was aboard Apollo 15 on its trip to the moon in 1971. The flag's design consists of a blue Star of David between two blue stripes against a white background. It was adopted in 1948 just months after the country's establishment. Worden has signed on the lower white stripe: "Flown to the Moon on Apollo 15 Al Worden CMP". Heritage has not previously offered a flown flag of Israel; a quick look at other records indicates no recent sale at auction. Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Al Worden" on his letterhead, stating (in part): "I hereby certify that this flag from Israel included with this letter went to the moon aboard Apollo 15 in the spacecraft 'ENDEAVOUR'. It remained in the command module during the lunar orbit phase of the flight."
