DescriptionApollo 15 Flown National Flag of India Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot Al Worden, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 6" x 4.5" cloth Indian flag that flew to the moon, July 26-August 7, 1971, aboard the Apollo 15 Command Module Endeavour. The flag of India, adopted in 1947, consists of three stripes- deep saffron, white, and India green- with a twenty-four spoke Ashoka Chakra, the Buddhist wheel of doctrine, the center. Worden has signed on the green stripe at the bottom edge: "Flown to the Moon on Apollo 15 Al Worden CMP". This is the first space-flown flag of India that Heritage has offered. Excellent condition with a small smudge at the upper left corner.
Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Al Worden" on his letterhead, stating (in part): "I hereby certify that this flag from India included with this letter and marked with my signature and flight number went to the moon aboard Apollo 15 in the spacecraft 'ENDEAVOUR'..."
