Description

Apollo 15 Flown Large-Size Michigan State Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot Al Worden, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 12" x 7.5" Michigan flag that flew to the moon aboard Apollo 15, a scientific-oriented mission. Michigan was Worden's state of birth and he earned his Master of Science degree at the University of Michigan. In fact, all three Apollo 15 crewmembers attended that university. The flag design consists of the state's coat of arms on a blue field with three Latin phrases: "E Pluribus Unum" (Out of many, one); "Tuebor" (I will defend); and "Si Quæris Peninsulam Amœnam Circumspice" (If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you). Inside the lowest riband of the seal, Worden has written: "Flown on Apollo 15/ Jul 26 - Aug 7, 1971/ Al Worden CMP". This is the first flown Michigan flag Heritage has offered. State flags are seldom seen in this size. Excellent condition, stored folded twice.

Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Al Worden" on his letterhead, stating (in part): "I hereby certify that the Michigan state flag (8x12) included with this letter and marked with my signature and flight number went to the moon aboard Apollo 15 in the spacecraft 'ENDEAVOUR'. It remained in the command module during the lunar orbit phase of the flight. It has been in my personal possession since then."

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
