DescriptionApollo 15 Flown Flag of Spain Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot Al Worden, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 5.75" x 4" cloth Spanish flag that was carried aboard Apollo 15 on its mission to the moon, July 26-August 7, 1971. This flag stayed in the orbiting Command Module Endeavour with Al Worden while Dave Scott and Jim Irwin took the Lunar Module Falcon to the lunar surface along with the Apollo program's first lunar rover. Note that the current flag of Spain does not feature the eagle and shield; this flown flag is of the design used during the period 1945-1977. Worden has signed on the lower portion of the yellow stripe: "Flown to the Moon on Apollo 15 Al Worden CMP". Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Al Worden" on his letterhead, stating (in part): "I hereby certify that this flag from Spain (1945-1977) included with this letter went to the moon aboard Apollo 15 in the spacecraft 'ENDEAVOUR'. It remained in the command module during the lunar orbit phase of the flight."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
