Description

Apollo 15 Crew-Signed Insurance Cover Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Jim Irwin, with LOA Signed by His Wife. A 6.5" x 3.625" envelope bearing the "Antarctic Treaty" 8¢ stamp, postmarked July 26, 1971, with a pictorial NASA cancellation from Kennedy Space Center, Florida. At left is a color cachet of the mission insignia with "NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Stamp Club" printed above and "Official Commemorative Cover" below. The three crewmembers have boldly signed beneath the cachet: "Dave Scott", "Al Worden", and "Jim Irwin". Inside is the original mission information card. Extremely fine condition.

Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity dated October 22, 2003, and signed "Mary Irwin-Vickers", stating: "The following is a testament to the provenance and identity of the Apollo 15 insurance cover, dated July 26, 1971, that is signed by astronauts Dave Scott, Al Worden, and Jim Irwin. I, Mary Irwin-Vickers was the wife of Apollo 15 astronaut Jim Irwin. I do attest that this is an original Apollo 15 insurance cover that is signed by astronauts Dave Scott, Al Worden, and Jim Irwin. Created by the astronauts in the event they did not return from the Moon, these covers remained on Earth to provide their families some means of insurance."
