DescriptionApollo 14 Flown National Flag of the Netherlands Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 6" x 4.375" cloth Dutch flag that accompanied Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa, and Edgar Mitchell to the moon and back, January 31-February 9, 1971. This tri-color red, white, and blue design was first introduced in 1572. Dr. Mitchell has signed on the lower portion of the white stripe: "Edgar Mitchell/ Flown to the Moon on Kittyhawk, Apollo 14". Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Edgar Mitchell" on his personal letterhead, stating (in part): "This letter certifies that the accompanying 4" x 6" flag of The Netherlands was carried in my personal preference kit (PPK) from January 31 to February 9, 1971 during the Apollo 14 mission..."
