Description

Apollo 11 Training-Used "CSM TEC" Star Chart Directly from the Personal Collection of Astronaut John Young, Signed and Certified. Degree-divided on all four edges with hour divisions on the top and bottom, this 16" x 8" black chart on film, with white printing, is titled "CSM TEC STAR CHART (B)/ LAUNCH JULY 18". It was designed to be used in the command module for the trip home, known as the Transearth coast. The Sun, Earth, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, and the moon are all portrayed by colored dots in order to stand out against the star field. The outlines of a number of constellations are shown and many stars are named and numbered, including the stars named (backwards) for the crew of the ill-fated Apollo 1: "DNOCES" (Edward White the Second), REGOR (Roger Chaffee), and "NAVI" (Ivan "Gus" Grissom), Young has signed in silver on the front in the upper right corner: "Used For Apollo 11 Training/ John W. Young". Excellent condition.
