"Lets keep the ball rolling for cooperation in space and on earth"

Andrian Nikolayev: "Visit to the United States" Photo and Press Clipping Album Presented to Him by Buzz Aldrin after his October 1970 U.S. Tour, Originally from His Personal Collection. An amazing 12.5" x 14.5" custom photo album titled and personalized in gold on the front cover. It contains more than fifty color and B&W photos and numerous photocopies of articles that appeared in various newspapers along the route of the goodwill tour taken by Soviet Cosmonauts Nikolayev and Sevastyanov, October 18-28, 1970. The album opens with a one page typed introductory letter signed "Buzz Aldrin" on NASA letterhead, dated December 21, 1970. Aldrin writes, in part: "I am delighted to send you this photo album which covers your recent visit to the United States... I am sure you will have many pleasant moments sharing this with Valentina [Tereshkova- his wife and the first woman in space] and your daughter... It was a wonderful visit which I trust broadened the channel of communication between your country and mine...Here at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston we hope this success signals the continuation of exchange visits between your cosmonauts and our astronauts." The album traces the tour's various stops starting in Washington, D.C. where they laid wreaths at the graves of fallen U.S. astronauts Grissom and Chaffee. They then travelled to Huntsville, Alabama for a visit to the Marshall Space Center. In Houston for three days, they visited to the Manned Spacecraft Center where they met Wernher von Braun and others. In this album section, there is a 10" x 8" color photo of the two cosmonauts with a soccer ball at the Astrodome with Aldrin and Neil Armstrong. It is signed: "Lets keep the ball rolling for cooperation in space and on earth/ Buzz Aldrin". There is also a color photo signed "Robert R. Gilruth". The entourage then headed to the Los Angeles area where the Jet Propulsion Labs and Disneyland were on the agenda. Up the coast then to San Francisco and finally Seattle where they visited Boeing. An amazing trip and a one-of-a-kind souvenir as presented from Buzz Aldrin to Andrian Nikolayev. Contents in extremely fine condition though the album cover is separated from the binder (likely repairable).
